PRODUCTION VALUE is defined as the sum of all those qualities and standards contributed to making a films, television, or video.this would include everything one sees and hears onscreen. high production values would suggest attention to detail, quality of equipment, and expertise applied.low production values suggest either the stringency of a budget or an absence of resources.
KEY ASPECTS OF PRODUCTION VALUES:
1.CINEMATOGRAPHY;
this refers to the way the scenes are captured; this automatically covers camera angle, light, color grading, and framing.high production values involve beautifully, clearly, and ingeniously captured scenes.
EXAMPLE:- 'game of thrones' is highly cinematic; at time, it looks like a blockbuster movie, rather than a television serial.
2.SOUND DESIGN AND MUSIC;
distinctly clear sound, professional voice-overs, appropriate sound effects, and well-fitting music.bad sound design can be distracting; good sound engages audiences.
EXAMPLE:- movies like 'dunkirk' by christopher nolan rely on sound as the main method to create tension and audiences in the film.
3.SET AND COSTUME DESIGN;
realistic or creatively designed sets and costumes highly contribute to the production values.attention to historical accuracy or aesthetic themes in sets and costumes makes the world of the ahow more believable.
EXAMPLE:- the 'the lord of the rings' movies are that prime example of how well-thought-out set design and costumes can take viewers deep in to middle-earth.

sherlock BBC; relatively low budget but great production because of the great acting, clever script, and creative cinematography of the show.
LAW PRODUCTION VALUE:
old B-movies; these usually had very low budgets, and were therefore very light on effects, with minimal sets and simple soundtracks.the film would actually have to rest upon a far more compelling story line or actors.
local TV dramas where finances were not over abundant; FAR less attention would be placed on special effects, and more on the development of the story and acting skills; sets and cinematography would also be less elaborate.
SRI LANKAN TELEDRAMAS AND PRODUCTION VALUES:
💛 it is befitting to say that Sri Lankan teledramas have gradually improved in their production values,the older ones may have used simple sets and relied more on dialogues and drama.but the newer teledramas do better cinematography, more detailed set designs, and better quality sound.for instance, 'KOOMBIYO' had impressive production values, considering the limitations of a local production.the riveting story line, top-notch editing, and efficient use of locations contributed to its success.
the low-budget teledramas in Sri Lanka still depend on the dialog-oriented shorts, close-ups, with minimal changes of locations to cut down the costs, which hampers the overall production value.
