'SANAM THERI KASAM'  is a 2016 romantic drama featuring the directorial efforts of Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru. the movie centers on two main protagonists,Inder played by Harshvardhan Rane and Saru played by Mawra Hocane. throughout the plot,the movies deals with themes of love, transformation, societal expectations, and tragedy.

1.PLOT OVERVIEW:

it is a story of saru, a young traditional and conservative girl who gets humiliated for her looks every now and then.her family is pretty conservative,especially her father, and they always press her to fit in according to the societal norms.it is there that she meets Inder,an ex-convict,with a past nobody would want to live ,living in the same apartment.their first few meetings were just misunderstandings,but gradually ,there developed a strong emotional connection between the two of them. 

saru approaches Innder for help in getting herself transformed for marriage,and in the process,a chain of events draws them closer.this love story is full of pressures from society and sad twists resulting in a hear-wrenching end.

2.THEMES:

love and transformatin: although much physically changes with saru, the deeper transformation is inward as she finds her own sense of self-worth through her relationship with inder. inder's journey-from a bitter,distant man in to one who gives everything up for love-is another key party of the story.

role of society; the movie goes ahead to condemn the stringent specifications that family and society impose on people,particularly females like saru. the conflict shows her father disapproving of her relationship with Inder because of his conservative worldview.

tragedy and sacrifice: the movie isjust so sad in that it involves were star-crossed as their entire relationship was filled with a lot of ill fate that led to an emotionally touching climax that would always stick in viewers' minds.

3.CHARACTER ANALYSIS:

Saru: saru symbolizes innocence, subordination, and fragility. at the very beginning, she would be portrayed as an underconfident character with the burden of her family expectations and societal pressures. her transformation in to a confident female lead amidst tragic happenings gives value to the emotional core of the film.

Inder: the brooding character of inder has a mysterious past.protectiveness towards saru and silence in suffering make him a quintessential tragic hero as his love for saru is selfless and the poor guy can bear pains just to keep her happy.

4.CRITICAL RECEPTION:

while 'sanam theri kasam' received mixed reviews from critics, it has grown in to a cult through its emotional depth, performances, and musical score. to some, this tale was melodramatic and offered nothing to surprise at all;for other critics,however,the way the chemistry would brew between these leads and how that would unfold in love and tragedy was something worth noticing.

5.CINEMATOGRAPHY AND MUSIC:

most strikingly visual and unmistakably melancholic,the movie tells much about the underlining emotional intensity in the story.music also played a crucial role for the film, done by himesh reshammiya , with an increase of emotional depth within the film. songs like 'sanam teri kasam' and 'kheech meri photo' gained popularity and became part of the film's romantic ambiance.

•  'sanam teri kasam' is a touching  film, containing everything an amorous heart that relishes sad love stories craves. it narrates of the tussle between societal pressures and personal change, selfless love ,among others, making it a memorable bollywood romance,if not actually mainstream.
